First Tuesday Post!

It’s Tuesday with T so let’s take a moment to talk about the hard stuff. The embarrassing things that pop up from the unforeseen conditions and the reality behind the shoot. The images come out perfect, luring eyes and taste buds simultaneously. So who knew that there is so much angst that creeps in every now and then?

I am 5’4” but I can usually handle my own. When I started as a food stylist and photographer I made my list: checking for equipment, addressing any safety issues as well as quality control, down to what shoes I wear and what attire is least reflective. I will google the location two days in advance for parking access, and make sure I can carry all of the equipment without assistance. If I can’t, I will schedule my equipment person.

But sometimes I miss my mark. I always carry a step ladder but some clients select where I shoot, in some cases the table is a “High Top”. Close the window with good lighting, but still high. My C-stand extends 10 ft., but I don’t. I can stand on my ladder and tiptoe barely seeing the tilt screen, or I can stand on a stool, both risky. See what not to do in the picture that accompanies this post. So whatado!

Well, tethered photography is not just good for this type of situation, but also helps you get the perfect photo. You see your images and make adjustments all before you trigger the shutter. All in all, it’s a win win. I use products by “Tethering Tools” but I’m sure there other you can choose from. Stay tuned for more about tethering when I post more in May.

Until then, check back with me for my next post next Tuesday.
